To get a clean ceiling design with no exposed piping or cabling, a plaster ceiling is a must-have in almost every Malaysian home. A flat plaster ceiling is the most affordable, but the costs will increase if you want l-boxes, cornices, or dropped tray ceilings where you can hide your lights.
Prices of plaster ceiling are calculated in per-square-footage. Price for basic plaster ceiling of 20×20 feet starts from RM3,000 but will increase as you add more lighting points.
If you are installing a tray design (this is where an additional layer is added to the middle of the ceiling), this will also add to the square footage.
An L-box is added if you want to achieve a cove lighting or bounce lighting effect. An L-box is a shallow shelf that can be used to conceal pipes and wiring, and to house downlights or LED strips.
L-box ceilings are calculated in per-foot-run. So, if you have a living room of 20 x 20 feet, and you want an l-box all the way around, then the total length of l-box will be 20+20+20+20 = 80 feet.
A cornice is a decorative plaster ceiling element that adds more design and style to your ceiling.
